Eid Ul adha 2024

Continuing To Unite The Community Upon The Sunnah Of Praying Eid Outdoors

Join Us at Prospect Park

Sunday 16th June

Each year, CRM (Cumberland Road Masjid) brings the community together to observe the annual Eid Ul Adha prayer amidst the open expanse of the park, welcoming all to participate in this joyous occasion. This cherished tradition has graced the park’s grounds for the past decade, fostering community spirit and inclusivity. In addition to the prayer, this year’s festivities may include a delightful array of attractions, from a vibrant funfair to bouncy castles, tantalizing food stalls, cake & sweet stalls and potentially other offerings such as clothing stalls, all intended to enrich the experience for everyone to enjoy. As a Masjid with a thriving and expanding community, we eagerly anticipate the opportunity to celebrate this special day in unity and fellowship.

The Importance Of Praying Eid Outdoors

Following the Sunnah, we uphold the tradition of performing the Eid prayer in the open air. This practice is deeply rooted in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). As narrated by Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri, “The Prophet (PBUH) used to proceed to the Musalla (prayer place) on the days of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha” (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 956).

The term Musalla traditionally refers to an open space used for large congregational prayers, reflecting the Prophet’s preference for praying outdoors rather than inside a mosque.

Another narration by Jabir bin Abdullah states, “I witnessed the Prophet (PBUH) on the day of Eid. He started with the prayer before the sermon, without any Adhan or Iqamah” (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 885).

This practice emphasises the importance of unity and inclusivity, allowing the entire community to come together in a spacious setting.

Remember to bring your prayer mats, and if you require a chair, feel free to bring one along.

While card machines will be available at select stalls, it’s recommended to have some loose change and cash on hand.

You can also expect a variety of other stalls such as Tutu’s, selling halal chicken meals with rice and lentil soup.

Instead Prospect Park has been allocated to us as the best option available which is great as it is much bigger and has a significantly greater car parking capacity!
